Hello lovelies!

For this blog post, we will be discussing the benefits and downsides of wearing a wig cap. Now, some people prefer to wear one while others do not, and this is totally up to you.

Pros:

  1. A wig cap can act as a protective barrier for one’s scalp. Especially for those with complete hair loss, wearing a wig cap can prevent scalp irritation which can occur if the wig comes in direct contact with one’s scalp. Depending on the material of the wig cap, wearing a wig cap also allows air to flow to one’s scalp and lets the scalp breathe.
  2. A wig cap can help to produce a more natural look. A wig cap keeps one’s natural hair from peeking out. A wig cap also helps to flatten one’s natural hair and smooth out lumps that are caused by natural hair underneath the wig.
  3. A wig cap keeps the wig in place by providing that layer of friction.

Cons:

  1. For some, the extra layer from the wig cap may make it hot and uncomfortable. This, in turn, can cause sweating
  2. Some may also find wearing a wig cap restrictive. While wig caps are generally “one size fits all,” some wig wearers have noted that the cap can feel tight on their heads.

Another important thing to consider before deciding whether or not wearing a wig cap is best for you is the material of the wig cap. That being said, here are two very popular wig cap materials.

Wig Cap Materials:

  1. Nylon Wig Caps are one of the most popular types of wig caps. Nylon caps give you the extra layer of friction and prevent natural hair from sticking out from underneath the wig.

2. Mesh Wig Caps also prevent natural hair from sticking out. An important feature of mesh caps, however, is that they help the scalp breathe. This makes it easier to wear wigs for longer periods of time.
